Trauma and Orthopaedics

The Trauma and Orthopaedic Department is well established with a regular intake of general trauma including multiple injured patients. There are several sub specialties including hip, knee, foot and ankle and upper limb Surgeons.

Higher surgical trainees have ample opportunity to attend both elective and trauma operating lists and are encouraged to operate with supervision. There is a high turnover of hip and knee replacements and an efficient turnover of Day Surgery for shoulder, foot and ankle operations.

All Consultants are committed to training and past trainees have always had good numbers for their Log Books. Training opportunities are focused on theatre and ward-based environments with regular teaching trauma meetings and weekly local orthopaedic teaching.
